On My Heart

My awesome friend Erin has one of the biggest hearts I know and it was no suprise to hear that her heart was being pulled towards adoption!  Her and her husband are faithful in what God is asking them to do and have said yes to opening their hearts, lives and home to a child from Ethiopia.  They don't know who this child will be yet, but guess what?  God does.  How cool, right?  He knows if Hannah and Joel are getting a new brother or a new sister.  He knows the date that they will meet their child.  He knows when they will fly home from Ethiopia with their newest arrival tucked into their laps.  He knows who will be a part of this awesome process and in which way that person will help.  I know that every person is called to help orphans in some capacity.  Okay, okay, so God told me that one!  This is an awesome chance for you to help an orphan.  A child living as no child should live.  Tim and Erin are starting the process and are holding a fundraiser that will run through February.  Help them bring their child home!  Here's the post from her blog with all the details.  http://growinghutchisons.blogspot.com/2011/01/show-some-love-in-month-of-love.html

P.S. Here's some staggering statistics about Ethiopia.  Not out of guilt do I share but out of the sheer fact that this is happening in our world and not just in Ethiopia.  We so often don't even know about it!  This is a small snapshot...

* One out of every 20 children born alive die in their first month of life
* One out of ten die before reaching their first birthday
* One out of six die before reaching their fifth birthday
* There are 4.6 million orphans in Ethiopia
* The median age in Ethiopia is 18
* 1.5 million people in Ethiopia are infected with AIDS
* Per capita, Ethiopia receives less aid than any country in Africa
